How to check if user is logged in to admin using back-end function?

I'm looking at adding my own admin panel, but to do that we need to know that the user is authenticated.

You mean a different UI, so your users won't connect to your white label?
In that case you will be responsible for auth and everything ...Instead you could do JS/CSS injection in your whitelabel settings to customize/add features of our white label portal

We don't have this feature yet, feel free to post it in "Features Request" section with details about what you want and how you would like to have it / use it
For now you have to invite users by email through your White Label dashboard, so they will receive credentials by email with your branding
